He was buried on 12 Aug 1977 in Los Angeles, CA. Artesia Cemetery He was a Salesman. He . Named Robert Allen Morbitzer at his birth - but of course was always called Bob. My earliest memory of him is hearing him tell of frequently replacing his three-celled flashlights. He said he broke them on the heads of dogs that attacked him on his rounds as a meter reader for the gas company. In later years, he was always a salesman. As with all of my Columbus cousins, Bob liked to come to our home, which had a comparatively rural flavor then. He got along well with Arko, our Doberman-Pinscher, and taught the animal to kill stray cats that had taken up residence in our chicken barn. However, Arko did not differentiate between strays and others. One day he spotted our neighbors kitten and picked it off of the tree it was climbing in an attempt to escape. This put a decided strain on neighborly relations. Bob was interested in another one of our neighbors, Peg Cannon, a very attractive and moneyed young lady. As an old saying goes, She wouldnt give him the time of day. and once sicced her bulldog on him. The only problem there was that the dog bit me. I still have the scars. He married in 1938 and had two children and a brief Army stint before the war ended. After the armistice, he divorced, married divorcée Lela Pritchard Schooley, and had one more child. Leaving the first two children and their mother, he and his new family went to Texas for a few years, then to California. Number two wife divorced him around this time and remarried. Bob died of cancer in Long Beach in 1977. Biography written by George Bleimes (Cousin to Robert Allen Morbitzer) Parents: Frank MORBITZER and Bertha Louise "Birdie" ROBINSON. Marlon Crowley, 26, was charged with aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault and having a weapon as a felon. Kylon Jones, also 26, was charged with complicity to aggravated murder, complicity to murder, complicity to felonious assault, tampering with evidence and having a weapon as a felon. According to the Columbus Division of Police, Crowley said he admitted to shooting Morbitizer from the back seat of a sport-utility vehicle. The vehicle was being driven by Jones. Police said the shooting, which occurred May 11 on East 11th Avenue, was a random act. At about 2:30 a.m. Crowley ordered Jones to circle the block on E. 11th Avenue, after he said someone in group of pedestrians spit or threw a bottle at the car, police said. Morbitizer, of Grove City, was shot in the chest while walking alone back to his apartment on E. 11th Avenue, after stopping to have a drink with a coworker after when hed finished his shift at the Olentangy River Road Don Pablos. The two suspects are familiar with the judicial system, said Sherry Jones, spokeswoman for the Columbus police. They have both served time in jail for crimes ranging from burglary to drug trafficking. Both men are being held in the Franklin County jail. Bail is set at $5 million each, which is the highest bail set in Franklin County in the past decade. ************Witnesses testify in shooting death of student**************** Trial began yesterday for Marlon Crowley, one of two men charged in the shooting death of Ohio State student Ryan Morbitzer last spring. After the prosecution and defense made their opening statements, witnesses testified about the morning of May 11, when Morbitzer was shot and killed near 80 E. 11th Ave. Columbus Division of Police officer Paul Welch described the scene when he arrived as somewhat chaotic. Morbitzer was lying on his side with two women kneeling over him, one holding a cloth to his back. "I tended to the victim and stayed with the victim until the squad came in," Welch said. After the squad arrived, he found and separated witnesses of the shooting. "People were yelling at me and giving descriptions of the vehicle," Welch said. "People were pointing east down the street." OSU student Anna Mitchell, 21, testified that she heard two loud popping noises and witnessed a red Sport Utility Vehicle fleeing east down 11th Avenue and saw the vehicle turn right on Summit Street. "We had heard two loud popping noises," Mitchell said. "I thought it was fireworks. I tried to make myself believe they were fireworks." Mitchell and a friend attended to Morbitzer until police arrived on the scene. "I held a towel on his back where he had been shot," Mitchell said. Officer Andrew Ward testified that he found a maroon Ford Explorer near East 11th and Grant avenues that matched the description from witnesses. After detaining the driver and passenger, Mitchell identified the vehicle as the same one she had seen fleeing the crime scene. OSU student Melissa Lilburn, 22, was sitting on the second story porch of her E. 11th Ave. apartment with eight friends when she witnessed the shooting across the street. "Ryan didn't draw any attention to himself. He looked like any other kid on the street," Lilburn said. Lilburn said she saw a red SUV pull over to the side and she and her friends heard two gunshots. Then Morbitzer stumbled out into the street and the vehicle sped away. "Ryan was saying he was shot," Lilburn said. Sgt. Kenneth Tischler was the crime scene search detective. He gathered evidence from both the scene of the shooting and from the vehicle. Tischler said a spent 9mm shell casing was found under the driver seat and a live round of ammunition for a .38-caliber revolver was also found in the car. In his opening statement, defense attorney Blaise Baker told the jury the prosecution would have everyone believe that the case against his client is cut and dry. Baker told the members of the jury that they would be asking many difficult, nagging questions throughout the trial. "This case will not give you the pristine clarity that the state of Ohio would like you to believe," Baker told the jury. The trial resumes today at 9 a.m. at the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas. **********Drive-by shooting worries area residents*********** COLUMBUS The random drive-by shooting of an Ohio State University student in an off-campus neighborhood has residents concerned about the area's safety. Ryan Morbitzer, a 20-year-old sophomore English major from Grove City, who friends say had no enemies, was walking on 11th Avenue at 2:39 a.m. Friday when he was shot in the chest. He died in surgery three hours later at the OSU Medical Center. Police say there appeared to be no reason why Mr. Morbitzer was killed. I want to know why it happened, said Melissa Lilburn, who witnessed Mr. Morbitzer's shooting as she and some friends drank beers on her apartment balcony, which overlooks 11th Avenue. Ms. Lilburn said she watched as shots were fired at Mr. Morbitzer from the driver's-side window of a passing red sport-utility vehicle. Mr. Morbitzer remained standing after he was shot, Ms. Lilburn said. He was like, "I got shot in the back and in the leg!' He yelled, "Call 911!' she said. Mr. Morbitzer then took a few steps into the street and collapsed, said Anne Bartoszck, who also witnessed the shooting from Ms. Lilburn's balcony.
